New York, NY, June 16, 2023— The Jewish Museum presents Tissot and the Bible, an installation of original designs by the French painter James Tissot (1836-1902) from a group of more than 350 paintings related to his goal of illustrating the Hebrew Bible. Spanning all of the books, from Genesis to the Prophets, Tissot’s watercolor illustrations are some of the most beloved and sought-after images in the Jewish Museum’s collection. The biblical stories are illustrated in cinematic vignettes that have influenced popular culture for decades. Tissot and the Bible is on view through June 2025.

New York, NY, June 15, 2023— The Jewish Museum will present the first survey exhibition in the United States of Marta Minujín, a defining force of Latin American art whose trajectory intersected with the major artistic developments of the postwar period while reflecting a singular spirit and vision infused by her sharp intellect, irreverent humor, and performative presence. On view from November 17, 2023 through March 31, 2024, Marta Minujín: Arte! Arte! Arte! will reflect the genre-defying arc of the artist’s six-decade career.

New York, NY, April 3, 2023—The Jewish Museum will present Mood of the moment: Gaby Aghion and the house of Chloé, the first museum exhibition honoring the visionary Jewish entrepreneur Gaby Aghion (1921-2014) and her legacy as the founder of the French fashion house Chloé. Casting a new light on the label’s 70-year history with nearly 150 garments as well as never-before-exhibited sketches and documents from the Chloé Archive, this exhibition highlights Aghion's vision of effortless, luxurious fashion, and the work of iconic designers who began their careers with the brand, including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Philo. The exhibition will showcase Aghion as a leader whose work altered the course of the global fashion industry in liberating women's bodies from the restrictive attitudes and styles of the time, as well as pioneering the emergence of luxury ready-to-wear. Mood of the moment: Gaby Aghion and the house of Chloé will be on view at the Jewish Museum from October 13, 2023, through February 18, 2024.

These works are part of a larger gift to the Museum in 2018 comprising artworks made by the recipients of The Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation Award (see below for the full list of artists). After "The Wild": Contemporary Art from The Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation Collection is on view at the Jewish Museum from March 24 through October 1, 2023.

On view from March 3 through August 13, 2023, the exhibition follows four generations from Iraq to India, China, and England, featuring a rich selection of works collected by family members over time.

Highlights include a selection of Hanukkah lamps on view from the Museum’s renowned collection; special family programs including a concert with Oran Etkin on December 25; and unique menorahs, dreidels, and gift items available for sale in the Jewish Museum Shop. Hanukkah begins on the evening of Sunday, December 18, and runs through Monday, December 26. The Jewish Museum is free on Saturdays, and children 18 and under are always free. Artists included are Ethel Fisher, Andrea Geyer, Lyle Ashton Harris, Deborah Kass, Alex Katz, Alice Neel, Arnold Newman, Gordon Parks, Larry Rivers, Joan Semmel, Andy Warhol, Hannah Wilke, and Martin Wilner. Personas: Artists on Artists is on view in the Jewish Museum’s third floor collection exhibition, Scenes from the Collection, from October 28, 2022, through April 2023.
