Visitor Experience Assistant

Visitor Experience Assistants provide visitors with a positive and welcoming experience at the Jewish Museum through courteous, proactive, and efficient sales and customer service. The Museum operates five days a week, including evenings, weekends, and holiday hours.

Visitor Experience Assistants are responsible for fulfilling an array of job functions in a friendly, positive manner, including selling admission and program tickets; selling memberships and serving member needs; providing visitor information and wayfinding assistance; administering and orienting visitors to the Museum’s mobile tours; ticket scanning and queue management; providing customer service support by telephone; assisting with the fielding of audience intercept surveys; and acting as in-gallery attendants as needed. The position pays a competitive rate of $18/hour, plus a commission on Museum memberships sold.

Responsibilities:

Assistant Manager, Family & Studio Programs

The Assistant Manager, Family & Studio Programs reports to the Associate Director, Family Programs in the Education Department and is involved with the development and implementation of all family programming including Sunday studio programs, gallery programs, performance programs, Family Days, partnerships, and virtual initiatives for families. This position involves a substantial focus on conceptualizing creative studio programs for family audiences. The Assistant Manager, Family & Studio Programs will collaborate on projects with the family programs team which also includes the Senior Coordinator, School & Family Programs.

The second focus of this position will be conceptualizing, coordinating, and teaching Adult Studio Workshops. Manager, Accounts Payable & Payroll

Communications Intern

Curatorial Intern

We are looking for inspired individuals who would like to join the Curatorial Team of The Jewish Museum and develop their knowledge of exhibition realization in a professional, supportive environment. Fall interns will be assigned to assist Curators with research, correspondence, as well as general administration in connection with forthcoming exhibitions, presentations, and related special projects.

Responsibilities:

The intern will research specific topics in art, share their research, organize visual material, and perform general administration tasks such as (but not limited to) maintaining checklists and budget logs, mailing and invitation lists, general paperwork, and presentation materials.  Current projects include the painter, Chaïm Soutine, portraiture in the museum’s collections, and further topics in modern art and the museum's collections.  The intern may be asked to research at off-site, public facilities in New York City, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art library (Thomas Watson Library) the library at MOMA, the New York Public Library, etc.  Other tasks will be assigned as the need arises. 

Requirements:

  • B.A. and M.A. candidates in Art History, as well as M.A. Candidates in Arts Administration and Museum Studies preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and excellent organizational, research, and communication skills are a must.

Assistant to Director of Development

The Jewish Museum seeks a detailed-oriented, proactive individual to provide essential administrative support and project coordination for the Director of Development, who oversees fundraising for the institution, including Major Gifts, Institutional Giving, Special Events, Membership, and Research. The position requires exceptional organizational skills and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. The candidate must possess a strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines, and work under varying degrees of supervision (including independently) in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Successful candidates will be able to handle projects with a can-do attitude, thrive in a role with a high degree of responsibility, and feel comfortable interacting with all levels of the Museum community.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as main administrative support and liaison for the Director of Development
  • Coordinate special projects within and across Development
  • Liaise with Museum Trustees, funders, staff, consultants, vendors and other professional colleagues on behalf of the Director of Development, including drafting and editing letters, emails, and reports
  • Organize and prepare materials for meetings including for the Board Development Committee, donors, and staff
  • In conjunction with the Systems manager, act as the departmental liaison for list management, including invitations, catalogue mailings, and donor lists
  • Assist with Development Director’s  to-do list and contact lists, including making accurate entries into the Development database
  • Manage/schedule Development Director’s busy calendar
  • Provide general administrative support including answering phones, setting up for meetings, greeting guests, filing, mailings, and expense reporting  

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years full-time administrative experience with demonstrated interest in museums and arts & culture organizations
  • A positive attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work accurately to meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong oral communication skills and phone manner
  • Strong judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office and experience with Raiser’s Edge or  Salesforce
  • B.A./B.S. degree required
