Zoom, Virtual Program
Jewish artists Amedeo Modigliani and Marc Chagall are well-known—Chagall for his lyrical narratives of Jewish life in Vitebsk and Modigliani for his compelling portraits and nudes. This two-session course explores the lesser-known works of both artists, specifically, the powerful works Chagall created in response to World War II and Modigliani's astonishing drawings, which reveal his artistic process and illuminate the meaning of his paintings. Explore these works through the lens of two Jewish Museum exhibitions—Modigliani: Unmasked (September 15, 2017 - February 4, 2018) and Chagall: Love, War, and Exile (September 15, 2013 - February 2, 2014)—and learn how Modigliani and Chagall respectively confronted antisemitism and pushed cultural boundaries in their art. Each tour is led by a Jewish Museum educator and is one hour in length including Q & A.
Classes take place over Zoom.
Tickets: $30 General; $24 Jewish Museum Members
Please note that this is a live virtual two-session class, which will not be recorded for later viewing. Ticket purchase is required and includes both sessions, February 7 & 14, 2 - 3 pm EST.
